If you are unmarried you are fully entitled to this care and it is entirely lawful. You need nobody's permission but your own — not a husband's, not a partner's, not your parents'. A large number of the women who come to us are unmarried and have never been inside a hospital as a patient before. That is who this place is set up for.

Why patients from Bengaluru come this way

Bengaluru is a city people move to for work, which means most people there have a dense circle of colleagues, flatmates, landlords and family contacts, and very little of the anonymity a big city is supposed to give. Goa is an ordinary weekend for a Bengaluru resident, and the flight is short enough that the whole thing can be done without a story having to be invented for anyone.

What happens when you get here

If the scan finds an ectopic pregnancy

Sometimes the scan shows that the pregnancy is not in the womb at all but growing in a fallopian tube. This is an ectopic pregnancy and it is a different thing entirely — not a termination of pregnancy, but a separate medical condition and an emergency. It cannot continue where it is, and the operation to treat it is done to protect your life. Catching it early is one of the main reasons the scan comes first.

Why we ask you not to wait

Earlier is simpler. In the early weeks there are more options, less needs to be done, and recovery is quicker. As the weeks pass the choices narrow and what is left becomes a larger undertaking. The law sets outer limits and we will tell you exactly where you stand — but our reason for asking you to come sooner is clinical.

A fixed price, given after you are examined

On the telephone, with a recent ultrasound in front of us, we can give you a close estimate — no more than that, because an examination that has not happened yet cannot be priced. Once you are here, our own certified doctors assess and examine you and repeat the investigations, so the exact stage and the exact situation are known.

Then you are given a precise, itemised cost: hospital, medical, pharmacy and laboratory. That becomes a promised package in rupees. Hospital fees are taken in full in advance and the figure does not change afterwards. The figure you are given is the figure you pay.

How to reach us from Bengaluru

• By air. Several airlines fly direct from Bengaluru into Goa each day and the flight is roughly an hour and ten minutes. Fly into Dabolim (GOI) if you can — it is a few kilometres from the hospital. Mopa (GOX) is also served, but it sits in North Goa and adds about an hour and a half of road at this end.
• By road, if you would rather drive: it is a long day either by the Belagavi and Chorla ghat route or down the coast, and most patients from Bengaluru fly instead.
• Not by train. There is rail between Bengaluru and Goa, but it takes the better part of a day and night. We would rather tell you that than let you find out.
• Once you are in Goa, the car is ours. We collect you from the airport or the station, bring you to the hospital and take you back, free of cost. The same car service runs into Karnataka and Maharashtra for patients coming by road — ask us where it can reach.

Worth doing before you travel

• Send us the date of your last menstrual period and any scan you have, by WhatsApp, and we will tell you what to expect before you spend a rupee on travel.
• Send any blood reports too, so less of your visit is spent repeating them.
• Ask whether the follow-up check can be fitted into the same trip.
• Leave yourself a spare day rather than flying back on the evening of the procedure.
