One direct train up the coast puts you in Goa in under five hours, and Udupi is about an hour and a half closer still. Pai Hospital is at Vaddem, Vasco-da-Gama. Gossip is actively suppressed here as a discipline. And privacy is built into the shape of the visit itself: who sees you, where you wait, what is said aloud and what is not.
If you are unmarried, you are fully entitled to this care and it is completely lawful. You need nobody's permission but your own — not a husband's, not a partner's, not your parents'. Where the law requires a second doctor's opinion before a more advanced pregnancy can be certified, that opinion is given here, by the hospital's own registered doctors, on the same visit — which matters when you have come a distance.
A government MTP licence and the prescribed consent form
The operating theatre is licensed by the government specifically for termination of pregnancy. The government's prescribed consent form is signed before a termination, and that form exists only at licensed premises — a pharmacy may not dispense the medicines without it. It is there for your protection.
Scan-guided surgery, 100% disposable instruments, day care
A surgical procedure is carried out with the uterus on the scan screen throughout, everything that touches you is single-use, and it is usually a day-care visit rather than an overnight admission — which keeps a travelling patient's trip short.
An ectopic pregnancy is not a termination
Occasionally the scan shows a pregnancy growing outside the womb, almost always in a fallopian tube. That is an ectopic pregnancy, and it is a different medical condition altogether — not a termination of pregnancy — and an emergency. It cannot continue where it is, and the operation that treats it is done to protect your life, under entirely different considerations. Finding it quickly is one of the main reasons the scan is done before anything is decided.
Why we ask you not to delay the journey
Earlier in a pregnancy this is simpler: more methods remain open, less intervention is needed, recovery is quicker. Later, the options narrow and what remains is a larger undertaking — and that matters more, not less, when a journey has to be planned around it. The MTP Act sets the outer limits and we will tell you honestly where you stand, but the reason to travel sooner is medical.
The cost, fixed after you are examined
Telephone us with a recent ultrasound and we can give you a close estimate before you buy a ticket. It stays an estimate until you have been examined, because an assessment that has not happened cannot be priced. On arrival, our own certified doctors examine you and repeat the investigations so that the exact situation and gestation are known.
Only then are you given a precise, itemised cost: hospital, medical, pharmacy and laboratory, each shown separately. That becomes a promised package in rupees. Hospital fees are taken in full in advance and the amount does not change at the end. The figure you are given is the figure you pay.
How to reach us from Mangaluru and Udupi
- By train — the sensible way. A direct fast train runs up the Konkan Railway from Mangaluru to Madgaon in Goa in a little under five hours. It calls at Udupi (about three and a half hours from Madgaon) and at Karwar. Slower services run the same line and take considerably longer, so it is worth choosing carefully. Vaddem is a short drive from Madgaon.
- By road. The coastal highway from Mangaluru to Goa is a long day's drive; from Udupi it is longer still.
- Not by air. There is no useful direct flight between Mangaluru and Goa — the train is quicker door to door and considerably less trouble.
- Once you are in Goa, our car is free. We collect you from Madgaon station or from wherever you are staying, bring you to the hospital and take you back afterwards, at no cost. The car service also reaches into Karnataka and Maharashtra for road journeys — tell us where you are starting from and we will say plainly what we can do.

Before you set out

How long is the train from Mangaluru to Goa?
A little under five hours on the direct fast service to Madgaon, and about three and a half hours from Udupi. Slower trains on the same line take a good deal longer.
