Termination of pregnancy for patients travelling from Sindhudurg
Lawful, licensed, confidential. Termination of pregnancy at Pai Hospital is carried out lawfully under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 (as amended), at a licensed facility, by registered medical practitioners, within the limits and the certification that the Act requires. We do not carry out or offer sex determination of any kind, at any stage, for any reason. Your identity and your treatment are confidential.
From Kudal, Sawantwadi, Kankavli, Malvan or Vengurla you are about two hours from us — and we will send a car, free of cost, both ways. Pai Hospital is at Vaddem, Vasco-da-Gama, just across the Goa border. The care is lawful and licensed, the cost is fixed before anything begins, and no one here will ask you to account for yourself. Call or WhatsApp us first, and we will arrange the rest.
In a small town, privacy is the whole difficulty
This is the honest reason most patients from Sindhudurg district cross into Goa. In a town where the chemist, the neighbour and the family are all within a few streets of each other, there is nowhere local that feels genuinely private — and that has nothing to do with the quality of care available at home.
So here is exactly what we do about it. Your identity is protected by law and protected here in practice. Nothing about your visit is written where another person can see it, discussed outside the room, or shared with anyone at all — not your family, not your husband or partner, not your employer, not anyone who telephones the hospital asking after you. Our staff are trained over years to be non-judgemental. Gossip is not simply frowned on here; it is actively suppressed, as a matter of training.
If you are unmarried, you are fully entitled to this care and it is entirely lawful. You do not need your husband's, your partner's or your parents' permission — the decision and the consent are yours alone. Most women who come to us are frightened when they arrive and many have never been a patient in a hospital before. You will be made welcome and looked after through the whole of it, not only for the half-hour that is the procedure.
What happens on the day
The scan is done here, on arrival
How many weeks you are, where the pregnancy has implanted and which method suits you are settled by an ultrasound done in our own department, by our own doctors, in this building, on the day you come. You do not have to bring a report from anywhere.
Three registered doctors, one building
Where the law requires a second doctor's opinion before a more advanced pregnancy can be certified, that opinion comes from this hospital's own registered doctors, on the same visit.
A government MTP licence and the prescribed consent form
The operating theatre holds a government licence specifically for termination of pregnancy, and the government's prescribed consent form is signed before a termination. That form exists only at licensed premises — a pharmacy may not dispense the medicines without it. It is there to protect you.
Scan-guided surgery, 100% disposable instruments
Where a surgical procedure is needed, the doctor watches the uterus on the scan screen throughout it rather than working by feel, and everything that touches you is single-use.
An ectopic pregnancy is something else entirely
Occasionally the scan finds that the pregnancy is growing outside the womb, usually in a fallopian tube. That is an ectopic pregnancy, and it is not a termination of pregnancy. It is a different medical condition and an emergency: the pregnancy cannot continue where it is, and the operation to treat it is done to protect your life, under entirely different considerations. Catching it early is one of the main reasons the scan is done before any decision is made.
Why coming sooner is better for you
Earlier in a pregnancy this is simpler. More methods stay open, less has to be done and recovery is quicker. Later, the options narrow and what remains is a bigger undertaking. The MTP Act sets the outer limits, and we will tell you plainly where you stand within them — but being two hours away, there is a real advantage in simply telephoning today.
The cost, and the promise that goes with it
With a recent ultrasound in front of us we can give you a close estimate on the telephone, and we will tell you it is an estimate, because an examination that has not yet happened cannot be priced. When you arrive, our own certified doctors assess you, examine you and repeat the investigations so the exact situation and gestation are known.
You are then given a precise, itemised cost — hospital, medical, pharmacy and laboratory, each listed separately — and that becomes a promised package in rupees. Hospital fees are taken in full in advance and the figure does not change at the end. The figure you are given is the figure you pay.
How to reach us from Sindhudurg
- Let us send the car — this is the simplest. Our car service collects patients from anywhere in Goa and from the border states, and Sindhudurg is on our doorstep. It brings you here and takes you home again, free of cost. You do not need your own vehicle and you do not need anyone to accompany you.
- By train. The Konkan Railway runs from Sawantwadi Road, Kudal and Kankavli down to Madgaon in about two hours, and Vaddem is a short drive from Madgaon. The same line continues north to Ratnagiri if you are further up the coast.
- By road. The highway from Sindhudurg into Goa is roughly two to three hours depending on where you start.
- Not by air. There is no sensible flight for a journey this short — the car or the train is far quicker door to door.
Train and road times change with the season, so check before you set out — or simply let us arrange it.
