Physical and emotional comfort during your care

Every part of an abortion here is planned around your comfort and dignity. Physically, that means gentle technique, a short anaesthesia where a procedure is needed, and a calm, warm recovery. Emotionally, it means unhurried, kind, private care, with no judgment. To receive any care you come to us in Goa in person.

You are welcome here, exactly as you are

Before anything else, we want you to know that you are welcome here exactly as you are. Many of the women we care for are unmarried, and some arrive quietly, with no one else knowing. None of that changes anything about how you are treated. This is lawful and safe abortion care in India, and every woman is met with the same warmth, privacy and respect, whatever her age or situation. You never have to explain or justify your choice to be cared for well.

Comfort begins the moment you reach us

Good care does not begin on a table; it begins with a calm, unhurried conversation. When you reach us, someone sits with you, listens, and explains things in plain language, at your pace. You can ask anything, more than once if you need to. Whether any treatment is suitable for you at all is something we decide only after you have been seen and gently examined — never a decision to settle from what you have read online. Understanding what is happening, and feeling in control of it, is itself one of the biggest comforts we can offer.

Physical comfort when a short procedure is needed

When a short procedure in theatre is the right choice, your comfort is looked after at every step. You are not awake and aware of it: a short anaesthesia is given by trained staff, so that you feel nothing at all during the procedure itself. Your breathing, pulse and blood pressure are watched closely throughout, and the gentle technique used is designed to be quick and to protect you. You wake softly afterwards in a warm, quiet recovery area, with our team beside you. Any tenderness as the anaesthesia wears off is usually mild and settles easily with simple pain relief. You can read about the surgical route for background, but please treat it as background, not instructions.

Physical comfort with the medicine route

Where the medicine route is the right one, the main feeling is cramping, stronger than an ordinary period for a while, along with some bleeding. This is expected, and it is manageable. We explain in advance exactly what is normal, give you simple pain relief to keep you comfortable, and tell you clearly what to watch for and when to reach us. You are guided through it, never left to work it out alone. You can read about the medicine route in general terms, but it is care that still begins in person, after you have been assessed, and never something to arrange or attempt by yourself.

Why comfort and safety mean coming to us in person

Comfort and safety go hand in hand, and both depend on being cared for in person. For that reason the treatment is always carried out here, with us, face to face. We do not send any medicine by post or courier, and we do not carry out any abortion over the phone. A call or a message to us is genuinely useful — it lets us understand your situation and tell you whether treatment is feasible and what the next step should be — but the care itself, and every comfort measure around it, can only be given once you have come in and been assessed. Trying to manage things alone at home is exactly what turns manageable discomfort into fear and risk.

A calm, dignified recovery

Recovery is treated as part of the care, not an afterthought. Afterwards you rest in a quiet space until you feel steady, and mild cramping or some bleeding can continue for a short while, much like a period settling down; simple pain relief at home is usually all that is needed. We tell you what is normal, what is not, and exactly when to reach us. A calm follow-up is included — a chance to check that everything has settled and to ask anything on your mind — and, if and when you want it, an unhurried conversation about contraception so that the future stays in your hands.

The emotional side is cared for just as carefully

Comfort is not only physical. Whatever you are feeling — relief, sadness, uncertainty, or simply a wish for it to be over — is normal, and you will not be judged for any of it. The staff who look after you are trained over years to be gentle and unhurried; nobody makes you feel rushed or small. Everything you share stays private, and nothing about your visit is discussed outside the room or with anyone who telephones asking. If you are anxious, please say so — we would far rather you asked for reassurance than sat with worry in silence. This guide is by Dr Mayur Pai, MBBS, MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Getting started

If worry about the experience is holding you back, please do not let it. Call or message us with your questions. Your first conversation can be online, and it is there to tell you whether treatment is feasible and to guide your next step — but the treatment itself, and all the comfort and care around it, is never done remotely. To receive any abortion service you will need to come to the hospital in Goa in person, where every comfort measure described here is in place. Whatever you share with us stays private. How do you keep an abortion as comfortable as possible?

Comfort is planned into every step. Physically, that means gentle technique, a short anaesthesia where a procedure is needed, careful monitoring and a warm, quiet recovery. Emotionally, it means an unhurried, kind and completely private manner, with no judgment. You are guided through everything and never left to cope alone.

Will I be awake during a surgical procedure?

No. When a short procedure is needed, a short anaesthesia is given by trained staff so that you feel nothing during it, while your breathing, pulse and blood pressure are watched closely. You wake gently afterwards in a calm recovery area, with the team beside you.

Will I be judged, especially if I am unmarried?

No. This is lawful care and every woman is welcome, married or not. You are met with warmth and respect, never questions about your choices, and everything you share with us stays completely private.

Can any of this be done over the phone or by post?

No. A call or message can tell you whether treatment is feasible and guide your next step, but the treatment itself is never done remotely. We do not send medicine by post or courier, and to receive any abortion service you must come to the hospital in Goa in person.

Is it difficult to travel to the hospital?

We try to make it easy. Free patient transport is available from across Goa and nearby areas. Call or message us, and we will help you plan your visit.
