What "day-care" means
Many women imagine that a surgical termination means a hospital stay of several days. For most, it does not. At Pai Hospital in Goa we run it as day-care, which simply means you arrive in the morning, everything is done in one visit, and you go home the same day once you are comfortable and steady. There is no ward admission for days on end and no long separation from your family or your work. The whole day is planned so that it is calm, private and unhurried.
It begins with a conversation, not a form
The first step is simply to call or message us. You can tell us your situation in your own words. From that first contact, and from an online consultation if that is easier for you, we can tell you whether this treatment is likely to be feasible for you and what the sensible next step is. That is all a phone or online consultation can do — it guides you. The treatment itself is never done remotely. To receive any abortion care you must come to the hospital in Goa in person, where you can be examined, scanned and looked after properly. We do not, and cannot, send medicines by post or courier, and no termination is ever arranged over the phone.
The morning you arrive
When you come in, the day starts gently. You are seen, your history is taken, and a few basic tests and an ultrasound scan are done so that we understand your situation clearly before anything else. This assessment matters: it lets us confirm what is right for you and rule out anything that needs different care, such as an ectopic pregnancy. Everything is explained to you, your questions are answered, and nothing happens until you have understood and given your consent. You are in control of the pace.
The procedure itself
A surgical termination is a short, well-established procedure carried out in our own operating theatre. It is done under short anaesthesia, so you are comfortable and aware of nothing during it. Because Pai Hospital has its own theatre and its own team on site, the scan, the preparation and the procedure all happen in one place, under one roof, without sending you elsewhere. Rest, and then home
After the procedure you rest in a quiet, private space while the anaesthesia wears off. A nurse checks on you, you are given something to eat and drink, and we make sure you are steady, comfortable and settled before you leave. For most women this whole day — arriving, being assessed and scanned, the procedure, and recovery — is complete within about six to eight hours, and you are home the same day. We explain clearly what to expect over the following days, what is normal, and exactly when to call us if you have any concern. You will be treated with warmth and without any judgement. There is more than one way a pregnancy can be ended safely, and which one suits you is not something that can be judged from a message or a phone call. It depends on your own situation, which is exactly why we ask you to come in and be assessed. Do I really go home the same day?

I live far away. Is getting there a problem?
