What single-use actually means

In simple words, single-use means used once, for you, and then discarded. Every instrument and every consumable that touches you during your care — the speculum, gloves, syringes, tubing, drapes, dressings and the other small items used along the way — is a fresh, sealed item, opened in front of you and never used again on another woman. Nothing that has touched one patient is ever passed on to the next. When something is made to be used only once, there is no question of whether it was cleaned well enough, because it is simply not reused at all.

Why this matters for your safety

The greatest risk in any procedure that enters the body is an infection carried from one person to another. Blood-borne infections and other germs can, in theory, travel on an instrument that is reused without perfect cleaning and sterilisation. The safest way to remove that risk is to remove the sharing itself. A single-use item cannot carry an infection from a previous patient, because there is no previous patient — you are the first and only person it ever touches. This is one of the strongest and simplest protections modern medicine can offer, and we give it to every woman who comes to us.

For the few instruments that are genuinely reusable, such as certain metal ones, hospitals rely on careful sterilisation between patients. That has its proper place, and we follow it fully. But wherever a good single-use option exists, we choose it, because the protection it gives is complete and does not depend on any one cleaning step being done perfectly every single time.

The same standard for both routes of care

There are, broadly, two safe routes of abortion care: the medicine route and the procedure route. Which one is right for a particular woman is decided only after she has been seen and assessed in person; it is not something that can be judged over the phone. Whichever route is appropriate, the same standard applies to everything that touches you — it is clean, sealed and single-use. During a procedure, the instruments and consumables that come into contact with you are opened fresh and discarded afterwards, and even the everyday items around your care, such as gloves and dressings, follow the same rule.

The quiet reassurance it brings

There is a real comfort in watching a sealed packet opened in front of you. Many women who come to us are anxious, and not only about the decision itself; they worry about whether they are truly safe. Knowing that nothing used on you has ever been used on anyone else takes away one very genuine worry. You do not have to ask, and you do not have to wonder — it is simply how we work, for everyone.

Lawful, private and without judgement

All of this care is provided lawfully, under the MTP Act, at a government-licensed facility. Many of the women we care for are unmarried. In India this care is lawful for them just as it is for anyone else, and we treat every woman with the same respect and the same privacy. Your visit, and your reasons, are yours alone.

This is about quality, not cost

We want to be honest about what single-use care is, and what it is not. It is a decision about quality and safety, never a way to cut corners. Using a fresh item for every patient is more care, not less, and we consider it simply the right way to look after you. Your wellbeing and your safety come first, and everything about how we work is built around that one idea.

You must come to us in person

One thing can never be arranged from a distance, and that is the care itself. Abortion care is never given by phone or by post. We do not send medicines to you by courier, and no part of the treatment is carried out remotely. To receive any abortion service, you must come to the hospital in Goa in person, where you can be examined, assessed and cared for safely. A phone or online consultation has one purpose only — to tell you whether treatment is feasible and to guide you on the next step. The treatment itself always happens with you here, in person.
