Lawful abortion care and fertility treatment in Goa, India, for patients from Saudi Arabia

Your visit stays between you and the hospital

Saudi Arabia's Indian community is large, and in many cities it is also close — one office, one compound, one family circle, one chemist who recognises your face. For a lot of patients who call us, that closeness is exactly the problem, and a hospital a full journey away in another country is the plainest solution to it.

Privacy here is not a policy statement, it is how the visit is actually run — who you meet, where you wait, what is written down and where it is kept. Nothing about your visit is shared with anyone outside your care team: not family, not an employer, not a caller who says they know you. Staff are trained over years to ask nothing beyond what your care requires. Many of the women we see are unmarried, which changes nothing about how they are treated here.

Why Goa

There is no direct flight between Saudi Arabia and Goa; most patients connect through Mumbai, Delhi or one of the Gulf hubs, with a shorter flight on to Goa at the far end. It is a longer journey than from the UAE or Qatar, which is exactly why the phone consultation matters so much here — it settles what you can expect before you spend on tickets, not after.

The law is different here, and it is worth understanding on its own terms rather than assuming. One hospital, one consultant. The doctor you speak to on the phone is the doctor who examines you and who operates, in the same building — the operating theatre and the embryology laboratory are both at Vaddem, Vasco-da-Gama.

• The hospital's own ultrasound department, so the scan that confirms gestation is done on the day you arrive.
• Three registered doctors on staff, so the second opinion the Act requires at a more advanced stage is given on the same visit.
• Surgical procedures under real-time sonographic guidance, with disposable, single-use instruments and consumables.
• Admission and recovery facilities: most terminations are day-care, with a short stay where it is needed.
• 24-hour cover for emergencies, deliveries and surgeries.
• An embryology laboratory in the same building, for fertility treatment.
• Pick-up by car within Goa, which can be arranged for you.

Planning the trip itself

What to bring with you

• Your passport (and, if you are not an Indian citizen, your Indian visa or OCI card) as proof of identity.
• The date of your last menstrual period, and any pregnancy test or scan report you already have.
• Any other medical reports, a list of the medicines you take, and any allergies.
• Your blood group report, if you have one.

You do not need a letter from your husband or family. For an adult woman the law asks only for her own written consent, given here on the consent form the MTP Rules prescribe.

Sooner is simpler

For termination of pregnancy, treatment is smaller and safer the earlier it happens — less intervention, quicker recovery, and more of the options still open, including the medication route, which stops being suitable early. An ectopic pregnancy is not a termination

An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that has settled outside the womb, usually in a fallopian tube. It is a different medical condition, and an emergency, not a termination — which is exactly why the arrival scan is always done first. Read about ectopic pregnancy.

Pick-up by car once you land in Goa

Pick-up by car can be arranged. The hospital runs its own cars: once you are in Goa, a car can collect you from the airport, from wherever you are staying, or from elsewhere in the state, and bring you back afterwards.

Our commitment to privacy and confidentiality

Your privacy is protected by Indian law, not only by our own practice. Section 5A of the MTP Act forbids a registered medical practitioner from revealing the name and other particulars of a woman whose pregnancy has been terminated, except to a person authorised by law. For many patients travelling from Saudi Arabia, this is a subject nobody at home discusses at all, so the whole visit is built around discretion, from the first WhatsApp message to the flight home:

• Nothing about your visit is shared with your family, your husband or partner, your employer or your sponsor.
• If someone telephones the hospital asking about you, we do not confirm that you are a patient.
• Only the medical facts needed for safe care are written down, and your records are kept confidentially at the hospital, with access limited to the clinical team caring for you.
• You can ask to be seen discreetly, without sitting in the general waiting area.
• Your records are yours: you can ask for a copy, and nothing is sent to anyone else unless you ask for it in writing or the law requires it.
