Confidential treatment in Goa, for patients from the Gulf

Many patients who write to us from the Gulf tell us this is the first time they have said any of it out loud to anyone. There is no judgement here about that, and no expectation that you explain yourself further than your care requires. Whatever brought you to this page, you are allowed to want this handled quietly, and that is exactly what we are set up to do.

Patients come to us from Dubai and the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. Most travel from cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait City and Manama, or from the towns within a couple of hours’ drive of their airports. What follows applies to all of them.

Our commitment to your privacy, in practice

This is what the hospital commits to for every patient:

• Nothing is written where another person can see it. Records are kept the way any hospital record is kept, and are not shared, summarised or discussed with anyone outside the clinical team caring for you.
• Nobody is told anything on the phone. If someone calls the hospital asking about you — family, a partner, an employer — nothing is confirmed or denied to them. That includes whether you are a patient here at all.
• Staff are trained for this, not just told to be discreet. Non-judgemental care and silence outside the room are treated as a professional discipline here, the same as any clinical standard, not left to individual good manners.
• Being unmarried changes nothing. A large number of the women treated here are unmarried. It is lawful, it is common, and it makes no difference at all to how you are cared for. See abortion for unmarried women in India.
• One safety rule about who comes with you. For a surgical abortion, which is done under anaesthesia, our policy is that you come with a responsible adult (a friend, a relative or anyone unrelated, above 18 years of age) who can take you home afterwards. That adult does not have to be a husband or family member, and if arranging this is hard, tell us when you call and we will help you find a way. Nobody will ask where your husband, partner or family are.
• Your passport is used only for your record. It confirms your identity for your hospital file, which is kept confidential and is not shared with anyone outside your care.

Pick-up by car, without being noticed

Pick-up by car can be arranged: the hospital's own car collects you from the airport or from wherever you are staying in Goa, and brings you back afterwards — so you are not relying on a taxi driver, a hotel front desk or anyone else who might ask questions you would rather not answer. The facilities at the hospital

Everything happens in one building, so fewer people are involved and you are not sent elsewhere:

• An operating theatre licensed by the government specifically for termination of pregnancy under the MTP Act.
• Three registered doctors on staff, so a second opinion, where the law asks for one, is given here.
• Ultrasound in the hospital's own department, and surgical procedures under real-time sonographic guidance.
• Single-use, disposable instruments and consumables, nothing reused between patients.
• Short anaesthesia with monitoring, and rest afterwards in a quiet, private space under a nurse's care.
• The hospital's own cars for pick-up within Goa.

What we do not do

We do not discuss your visit with anyone who is not directly involved in your care. We do not record more about your personal circumstances than your treatment requires.

Your confidentiality under Indian law (MTP Act, section 5A)

Your confidentiality is protected by Indian law, not only by hospital policy, for every patient treated here — whatever your nationality, and wherever you are travelling from. Section 5A of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, added in 2021, says that a registered medical practitioner may not reveal the name or other particulars of a woman whose pregnancy has been terminated, except to a person authorised by law.
